About Us
Although we (Dave & Elbie Basson) have been in fulltime ministry 19 years, the story of Kingdom Light started only four years ago in Jan 2006.
We moved from the city of Witbank, Mpumalanga to Cape Town. Our intention was to establish a base for our itinerate ministry and to use this base to practice what we preach, also to have a studio audience for our TV ministry as we have already started to broadcast on Spirit Word Channel.
Our mandate was to preach the Gospel (the GOOD NEWS) of the Kingdom, the finished work of the Cross, Grace, Mercy and the Love of God.
Little did we know that God had greater plans, He was about to lift us to higher levels by His Grace. We started in a conference facility of an insurance company in Bellville on Sunday mornings with about 10 people. Within two months we moved to a permanent site where we had services Sunday mornings and week conferences - growing every day.
This was still not the end. A dear couple who has been our friends and partners for many years, stays in Malmesbury where we had a church many moons ago, they asked us to start a house church in their home, so for the last four years we travel 80 km every Thursday evening to have awesome church with a lot of people, hungry for the Word of Truth, and signs and wonders.
THE SUDDENLY'S OF GOD
Friends of many years asked me to come see a shop in a shopping complex near our home in Strand. He wanted to know if I would be able to have church in this building. I said yes and he went on to sponsor the entire fitment of the church, musical instruments, carpets, chairs, sound, cups, projectors - well everything that we needed, and is paying even the rent al these years. Now we have church on Sunday mornings in Bellville, Sunday evenings in Strand and Thursday evenings in Malmesbury for four years now!
Suddenly two more towns asked us to come to them - Fishhook and Cape Agulhas. We are starting in our 5th year on weeknights with two new home churches. Never in my life did I think of myself to be a church planter, but a prophetic word many years ago said that I am standing on an airfield, all around me were hangers and buildings in various stages of completion, but the part I was standing on was foundations all up to floor levels. It is now only starting to make sense.
THE FAMILY (de family)
We surely would not be able to do any of this without our children. Our daughter Claudia moved with us to the Cape, with nothing else but a promise that God said. Her input is of great value to us, as she has laid the foundations of our prophetic worship as well as single handedly raising up our editing department. Two years ago Charlene became part of our family, and has been working alongside Claudia in every part of the ministry.
Shawn and Karien Basson got married 4 years ago. Karien studied tourism management and worked on cruise liners, she started at Radio Puilpit 5 years ago as a broadcaster and is still doing the morning show on Wednesdays and drive time show on a Fridays. She has just finished writing her first book and it will be out soon. (Kerk Stories is a comedic look at the life of ministry and leaves you laughing and inspired as each story ends with a motivational, it's a must read!!)
Shawn has been involved in full time ministry for 10 years. He started as a youth worker after he finished his service year for Christ (team year), studied at Rhema Bible School SA, then was youth pastor in Witbank and in Pretoria. He ministered to students at the Pretoria University before moving to Cape Town.
Shawn and Karien minister internationally as well.
They have a strong prophetic ministry and preach Grace and the finished work of the cross.
They joined KLC in December 2007.
TELEVISION MINISTRY
We have a program called IN HIS FACE that is broadcasted on Thursday evenings at 20h00 (Jhb Time) on the Spirit Word Channel. THE CANADIAN CONNECTION
We have ministered in Canada three times, and are connected through and old friend Pieter Swart, now living there, who has planted some churches in Newfoundland. He started an organization called Global Pioneering, taking the Gospel of the Kingdom to developing nations and 3rd world countries, training and raising up their leaders. The contact is also with Brazil, Portugal and England. We are privileged to be part of all this as the South African connection.
THE REVIVAL CONNECTION
The revival at Spirit Word Ministries has had a major impact on my life and ministry, and I truly feel that if I had not supernaturally been connected to this move of God, getting involved in television with the program IN HIS FACE on the Spirit Word Channel, receiving favor and friendship from Prophet Kobus van Rensburg, his wife Annelise and his children Kobus, Johan and Petrus - all these things would not have come to pass.
Truly this relationship catapulted us into our destiny in the Cape Town area, an overflow of the revival in Stilfontein. We truly thank God for our friendship and the things God has taught us through their ministry. Go and visit www.spiritwordministries.org for more information.
